Library In Istanbul
Academic project 2014
Mentors: Grainne Hassett & Maxime Laroussi A new library to the historic Sultanahmet District in Istanbul is proposed on the site of a Roman cistern (The Basilica Cistern). Slanted brick walls are utilised to increase surface area and deflect the noise from the surrounding chaotic area around the Haghia Sophia and Blue Mosque. Vital conections between these historic sites are made with a deep cut into the existing cistern and strategically orientating the plan towards the two important mosques |
